Serena Williams, Venus Williams controlled their own situation

  • Post category:Tennis

Coach Rick Macci believes Serena Williams and Venus Williams have shown that it is possible to “control your own situation” and not crumble under the enormous level of pressure of expectations. When the Williams sisters first came on the Tour, from Day 1 they were tipped to do major things and become all-time greats.

Nearly three decades later, the Williams sisters are widely recognized as one of the greatest players in tennis history. Serena finished her career with 23 Grand Slams, while Venus has seven Grand Slam titles. “No players had more pressure expectations and hype around them before they did ANYTHING than SERENA and VENUS.

You control the situation do not let it control you (two goat emojis),” Serena and Venus’ childhood coach Macci wrote on Twitter.

Serena Williams done with pro tennis, Venus still active

Serena, 41, ended her pro tennis career after the US Open.

In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Serena confirmed there were no plans on her side to return to pro tennis. “It’s hard to say. I would say no. For now, no. I’ve literally given my whole life to tennis, and it’s time for me to give my life to something else,” Williams said on CBS Mornings.

In the final tournament of her career at the US Open, Serena was beaten in the third round by Ajla Tomljanovic. On CBS Mornings, Serena admitted she wasn’t happy about her third-round loss. “I was actually not very happy at all.

Just because of the result. I was there to keep going and to keep winning. And yeah, it was more or less like, ‘I can’t believe I let that match go’ more than anything, you know. Obviously, it was a great moment and a great memory and I’ve never felt – I don’t feel like I’ve left anything, but I just felt like, ‘What could I have done better that day?’” Williams said. Meanwhile, Venus is dealing with a hamstring injury but she has indicated that she plans to play again.
