Saint Joseph University beats Coppin State to get the first spring win

Saint Joseph University men’s tennis team earned its first win of the spring, defeating Coppin State 7-0, at the Legacy Indoor Tennis Center. The Hawks will host Mount St. Mary’s at the Legacy Indoor Tennis Center on February 25.

Head coach Marc Pibernat told: “It was a good win for us, especially being the first of the season. We needed to play good tennis and stay focused throughout the game, and everyone did it. A special mention for our freshman , Inigo, who scored his first doubles win today as Hawk.

We have two weeks to prepare for the next match and we have to work hard to be in the best shape possible on match day. Go Hawks!” As reported by the Saint Joseph University website, Justus Agbo and Alejandro Vedri combined for a 6-0 win before Inigo Diaz and Nassim Fenjiro secured the point with a 6-1 finish.

Hawks kept things going in singles, with Fenjiro winning at love in the fourth flight before Vedri went 6-1, 6-2 in the first. Diaz pulled off a 6-3, 6-3 finish in the third round before Agbo finished the night with a triumph by the same scoreline in the second round.

Saint Joseph’s most recognizable building is Barbelin Hall, opened in 1927 The hall is known for its Gothic architecture, particularly the gargoyles that mark what is called the Barbelin Quadrangle and the tall, four-spired bell tower that can be seen from miles away.

Saint Joseph’s University is the home of the Hawks, its athletics program. The school colors are crimson and gray. SJU fields teams in 20 varsity sports in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The Hawks are part of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Since the Atlantic 10 does not support men’s lacrosse, the Hawks play in the Northeast Conference for that sport only.
