McKenna Wheatley of the Xavier University of Louisiana women’s tennis team received the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week award in the week February 6-12. It is the second week in a row that the Gold Nuggets have won the RRAC award.
Valentina Largacha was awarded for January 30-February 5, as reported by the XULA website. Next up for XULA will be a three-game Grizzly Invitational in Lawrenceville against Cumberland, Georgia Gwinnett and Lindsey Wilson.
Wheatley went 2-0 in doubles and 1-0 in singles to help the Gold Nuggets win their home games against Clark Atlanta and cross-town rival Loyola. Against Loyola on Sunday, Wheatley and Tianna Dixon defeated Avery Frierson and Reilly Briggs 6-3, then Wheatley beat Adele Fereres 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in sixth-round singles.

Obama returned after becoming president, visiting New Orleans in August 2010 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. He gave Xavier a speech complimenting the community leaders’ work and affirming their commitment to continue to help rebuild the area.
Xavier’s athletic teams are called the Gold Rush and the Gold Nuggets. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, primarily participating in the Red River Athletic Conference as of the 2021-22 academic year XULA competes in 12 intercollegiate varsity sports: men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, tennis, and track and field; women’s sports include basketball, cross country, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball; and coed sports include competitive cheering.
