Daniil Medvedev admits he “has no idea” how he was able out of the blue to rediscover his best tennis and start playing great again. After suffering a devastating 2022 Australian Open final loss, Medvedev never looked the same in the remainder of 2022.
Medvedev’s problems continued at the start of the 2023 season as the Russian suffered a surprise straight-set defeat to Sebastian Korda in the Australian Open third round. Medvedev, who recently admitted he was left with no confidence after the Australian Open, won three consecutive titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai, while also ending as runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters.
At the Miami Masters, Medvedev will try to reach his fifth consecutive final.
Medvedev on rediscovering his best tennis
“I managed to get back in the zone, which I didn’t really have for all of 2022 when I was less consistent.
I would have some good matches or tournaments but out of nowhere, I would have one bad match. I’ve managed to avoid that for the past four weeks. I have no idea how I have done it, but I am really happy and want to continue,” Medvedev said, per Sportskeeda.
Before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final, Medvedev was on a run of 19 consecutive wins. “Oh, no, I’m really disappointed because I had 20 one time, if I’m not mistaken, 20 or 21, but I think it was 20.
This would be cool to try to beat it and maybe try to prolong it as long as possible. It’s great to have these streaks. You feel great, because in the streaks you will always have maybe some easier by the ranking opponents but some top ones also.
Unless you play, I don’t know, six 250s in a row, but that’s rare,” Medvedev said of his streak. Now, Medvedev is hoping to enjoy another run in Miami.
