Bianca Andreescu, after watching the first five episodes, defended the new Netflix series Break Point and, on the Match Point Canada podcast, she explained: “I just finished Break Point on Netflix. I really enjoyed it. Provides a good insight into life on the Tour; it shows the difficulties, the joys, the team aspect and also many sincere moments.
I learned something new: Rafael Nadal has only gone to the fifth set three times at the Roland Garros in his entire career. I really didn’t understand the negative reactions it got. Watching this series also made me very emotional.” Andreescu stopped in the second round at the Australian Open 2023 and she reached the semifinals at the Thailand Open this season start.
In the last tournament held in Abu Dhabi, her path was interrupted at the first round.
The criticisms about Netflix series Break Point
On January 13th, a few days before the start of the Australian Open 2023, Netflix released the first five episodes of the new tennis television series entitled Break Point on its platform.
Netflix has chosen to focus attention on some of the best athletes on the Tour and it was possible to learn about the background that characterized the first part of 2022 of tennis players like Nick Kyrgios, Matteo Berrettini, Ajla Tomljanovic, Taylor Fritz, Ons Jabeur, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud.
New seasons could arrive with new episodes, with other tennis players as protagonists, even if no confirmations have yet been received in this regard. Not all tennis fans appreciated the Netflix project. Most of the allegations concern the way the stories have been told and the journey of the players in the different tournaments.
The impression is that the television series has tried to generate new fans without thinking about those who have been following this sport for some time. “It doesn’t tell anything new or incredible like Drive to Survive. People who have been watching tennis for years can only reject this series,” is one of the comments that it has received, the most likes on social networks.
