Bernard Tomic says he “has no idea” why a video of him being brutally assaulted by two men is going viral now since the incident happened five or six years ago. On Friday, a concerning footage started going viral. In the video, two men can be seen standing over Tomic and stomping and kicking him.
Australian media reported that the incident happened in front of a tattoo parlor on the Gold Coast but the date and what led to the incident wasn’t revealed. In 24 hours, the Tomic news went viral and the Australian tennis player took to Instagram to issue a statement.
“Hello, hope everyone is doing well, I’m here in Istanbul, Turkey. Flying to the USA. I haven’t been on Instagram over the last couple of months, so thought I’d jump over to the video that has been circulating. Heh, it’s so funny cause that happened five or six years ago.
So I have no idea why this is all going on now,” Tomic said in a video uploaded on his Instagram Story.

Tomic set to play in US tournaments
This week, Tomic competed at the Istanbul Challenger.
In his Istanbul opener, Tomic defeated Skander Mansouri but then missed out on a chance to make a deep run at the tournament. In the Istanbul round-of-16, Tomic suffered a heartbreaking loss after Nick Hardt edged out the Australian 6-2 3-6 7-6 (6).
After recovering from a set and a break down to send the match into a third set, Tomic took a 4-0 lead in the third set. At that moment, it appeared that Tomic was cruising toward a big comeback win. But then, Tomic blew a lead of two breaks as Hardt managed to force a third-set tie-break.
In the third-set tie-break, Hardt realized his third match point and Tomic ended up losing in three sets. Tomic now seems to be set to play in the United States.
